Job Description
The Position
The AVP, Global Medical Affairs will report to the Head of Medical Affairs & Outcomes Research. The primary responsibilities will focus on leading the Global (Ex-US) Medical Affairs team, developing robust global medical strategies across Organon’s portfolio pipeline and marketed products, and ensuring successful execution of all Global Medical Affairs programs. Additionally, this role will serve as a key coordination point among other functions, including commercial, clinical development, regulatory affairs and safety
Responsibilities
- Represent Global Medical Affairs on the Medical Affairs Leadership Team
- Accountable to lead, develop and execute global Medical Affairs and Field Medical strategies across the portfolio of pipeline and marketed products
- Oversee and manage local country medical affairs personnel and resource deployment, as well as centralized global medical services team
- Establish appropriate strategic partnerships with internal leaders in commercial, managed markets, clinical development, regulatory affairs, legal, compliance, safety, etc., and with external healthcare professionals, advocacy groups and policy leaders in the associated countries/clusters
- Represent Medical Affairs in global cross-functional committees and provide strategic medical direction
- In coordination with the MAOR Operations lead, oversee global budget and resource planning, activity prioritization, annual strategic Medical Affairs planning process, insights collection, KPIs, Standards/SOP and governance
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within Medical Affairs and the global Field Medical teams to optimize simplicity, efficiency and effectiveness
- Work closely with the Head, Outcomes Research (OR) to ensure prioritization and input into global-focused OR studies
- Coordinate and execute with internal and external partners to ensure comprehensive pre-deal business development (BD) input (e.g. info requests, due diligence needs, resource planning) and effective post-deal execution
- Enhance the company reputation and profile through an external focus, representing the company on cross-company boards and industry associations
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
- Advanced degree (MD, PharmD) is required
- Minimum 10 years’ leadership experience in a global industry setting, with a proven ability to:
- Plan and execute medical strategies
- Deliver high-quality results within established timelines
- Lead cross-functional teams and work streams
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail, internal drive to generate high-quality work, and sense of passion and urgency to achieve team and program goals
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and strategic planning skills
- Strong interpersonal skills commensurate with the need to work closely with investigators, consultants, and team members across functions globally
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills to meet the needs of varied audience
- Integrated understanding of ex-US regulatory agencies, ICH, and GCP guidelines
- Travel up to 50% of time
