Job Description

The Position

This strategic position is responsible for driving the HR agenda locally, ensuring alignment with the company's global objectives while tailoring it to meet regional and cultural needs. The HR Lead will play a pivotal role in fostering an engaging, inclusive, and high-performing work environment, enabling business success through effective people strategies.

Responsibilities

Strategic HR Leadership:

  • Develop and implement the affiliate’s HR strategy, aligning with global and regional HR goals and the overall business strategy.

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the affiliate’s leadership team, providing strategic guidance on organizational effectiveness, workforce planning, and talent management.

  • Drive cultural transformation initiatives to foster an innovative and collaborative work environment.

Employee Engagement and Development:

  • Lead efforts to build a positive employee experience, ensuring high levels of engagement and satisfaction.

  • Oversee the design and execution of training and development programs to build leadership capabilities and functional expertise.

  • Implement performance management processes, ensuring continuous feedback and development opportunities for all employees.

Talent Acquisition and Retention:

  • Partner with hiring managers to attract, recruit, and retain top talent in line with the company’s growth objectives.

  • Develop competitive compensation and benefits strategies to position the affiliate as an employer of choice in the Japanese market.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure HR policies and practices comply with Japanese labor laws, regulations, and industry standards.

  • Proactively manage employee relations issues, fostering a fair and transparent workplace.

  • Oversee risk management initiatives, including workplace safety, health, and well-being programs.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI):

  • Champion DEI initiatives to create a workplace that celebrates diverse perspectives and experiences.

  • Drive awareness and implementation of inclusive practices in recruitment, development, and employee engagement.

Operational Excellence:

  • Oversee HR operations, including payroll, benefits administration, and HRIS, ensuring efficiency and accuracy.

  • Leverage HR analytics to track metrics and provide insights for data-driven decision-making.

  • Manage the HR budget effectively, ensuring alignment with overall financial objectives.

Required Education, Experience and Skills

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; advanced degree or HR certifications (e.g., SHRM, CIPD) preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive HR experience, including leadership roles in a pharmaceutical, life sciences, or healthcare company.

Knowledge:

  • Deep understanding of Japanese labor laws, employment practices, and cultural nuances. Familiarity with global HR practices and the ability to adapt them locally.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and HR analytics.

  • Fluent in Japanese and English (both written and spoken).
