Job Description
The Position
The Senior Medical Advisor reports to the Medical Director. The Senior Medical Advisor holds primary responsibility within the country for the development and execution of the Medical Affairs Plans in his/her therapeutic areas under the guidance and supervision of the AP Medical Lead, as well as training, review of promotional materials, advice on regulatory and patient access submissions. Additionally, the Senior Medical Advisor provides Medical Affairs therapeutic area support through engaging with Scientific Leaders (SLs) / Key Decision Makers (KDMs), driving scientific initiatives and supporting the field force.
Additionally, the Senior Medical Advisor will provide leadership to the local medical team, support the AP Medical Lead, and may have management responsibilities.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Development of country medical strategy and medical value/affairs plans, and to then support implementation of Medical Affairs Plans along with Cluster Medical Lead.
- Translate Global Medical Strategies into research, data analysis, scientific communication, educational, and/or other tactics and solutions that improve patient outcomes and enhance access in the country.
- Communicate scientific therapy needs credibly, appropriately, and effectively across a variety of internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Development, implementation and execution of Local Data Generation and support of Investigator Initiated Studies.

- Provide leadership within the local Medical Affairs team and provide guidance and support to team members.
Tasks:
Scientific and Technical Leadership
- Communicate scientific therapy needs credibly, appropriately, and effectively across a variety of internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Build trust with the external scientific community via peer-to-peer scientific exchange, research and educational collaborations, interactions with scientific societies and health organizations, publications, etc.
- Provide therapeutic/functional training to assigned teams and affiliate functions.
- Develop and help execute country medical educational programs and symposia.
- Lead country Advisory Boards and Expert Input Forums in line with strategy.
- Participate in and contribute significantly to professional organizations, academic or regulatory working teams. Development, implementation and execution of Local Data Generation and support of Investigator Initiated Studies. Publication planning – presentation of publications at national and international conferences.
Medical Strategy and Therapy Leadership
- Translate Global Medical Strategies into research, data analysis, scientific communication, educational, and other tactics and solutions that improve patient outcomes and enhance access in the country.
- Ensure effective communication and collaboration between field and Medical through providing scientific and medical support to the Commercial team.
- Strong understanding of the Medicines Australia Code of Conduct and other relevant internal and external policies. Evaluate accuracy of promotional materials, leads MA Code of Conduct matters
- Provides strategic and medical support to internal stakeholders about product related issues; advises on regulatory and market access submissions.
- Provide Medical Affairs therapeutic area support through engaging with SLs/KDMs, driving scientific initiatives and supporting the field force.
- Collect, analyses, and communicate actionable insights at the country level.
- Provide scientific inputs for digital initiatives.
- Successfully collaborate, provide scientific inputs, and lead resolution of Regulatory queries/issues.
- Support execution of and quickly adapt tactical plans to business realities in country.
- Act with ethics and integrity; Provide non-promotional, balanced, reliable and scientific information.
- Support with therapy training content for Sales teams.
- Demonstrate strategic thinking, specifically related to asset value proposition, and clinical and value evidence.
- Support, creation and implementation of Medical Affairs Plans along with Country Medical Leads.
General Leadership
- The Senior Medical Advisor will provide leadership within the Medical Affairs team and provide guidance and support to team members.
- Actively contribute to team meetings and activities, and proactively identify process improvements.
- The Senior Medical Advisor may have people management responsibilities, as the team expands.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise work according to medial plans and medical strategy and exhibit a high level of problem-solving skills.
- The Senior Medical Advisor is responsible for ensuring that they are fully versed in the therapeutic area and up to date on: all major studies, both ongoing and completed; product information on Organon’s relevant therapies; clinical data and any relevant pipeline data to provide the most accurate data to SLs, KDMs and the healthcare community, in a balanced way, to enable improvement in patient care.
Qualifications
- Medical degree, PhD in health sciences, Pharm D or equivalent.
- Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentations) and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrate strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of research methodology.
- High level of interpersonal skills. Ability to manage a variety of tasks under pressure.
- Problem solving, conceptual thinking, strategic thinking.
- Ability to travel extensively (up to 60% of working week).
- Minimum three years Medical Advisor experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Experience of relevant pharmaceutical industry guidelines (MA Code of Conduct), regulatory / reimbursement framework and clinical research guidelines as well as the pharmaceutical industry in general.
- Clinical and/or research experience in therapeutic area of interest.
