Job Description
The Position:
The Senior Specialist, Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based scientific expert responsible for engaging in non‑promotional, peer‑to‑peer scientific exchange with Scientific Leaders (SLs) and Key Decision Makers (KDMs). The role supports strategic medical objectives, drives scientific engagement, and provides advanced medical and scientific expertise internally and externally. This position plays a critical role in gathering deep scientific insights, supporting clinical and research initiatives, and strengthening Organon's scientific leadership within assigned therapeutic areas.
The Senior Specialist MSL will report to the Senior Medical Advisor/ Medical Affairs Lead and serves as a scientific resource, proactively engaging stakeholders, supporting medical planning, and contributing to cross‑functional initiatives. The role requires advanced scientific capability, strong communication skills, and the ability to independently manage multiple complex responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
External Scientific Engagement
- Build and maintain peer‑to‑peer, non‑promotional scientific relationships with SLs and KDMs, ensuring credible and compliant scientific exchange.
- Gain deep insights into disease areas, therapeutic gaps, evolving clinical practices, and healthcare system challenges within the assigned geography; share insights with internal stakeholders to inform strategy.
- Represent Medical Affairs at regional and local non‑promotional scientific and medical events (e.g., congresses, symposia), collaborate on pre‑event scientific preparation, and provide post‑event summaries.
- Respond to unsolicited medical, scientific, pipeline, or product‑related questions using approved resources.
- Facilitate connections between SLs/KDMs and internal teams regarding clinical trials, research collaborations, and grants.
- Organize and deliver scientific exchange activities such as hospital lectures, journal clubs, advisory boards, and expert input forums; serve as scientific presenter when needed.
- Provide scientific support for Health Technology Assessments (HTAs) and formulary processes following principles of scientific exchange.
Internal Medical & Cross‑Functional Support
- Contribute to the development of country‑level Medical Affairs Plans and implement aligned scientific activities.
- Identify potential clinical trial investigators and support feasibility efforts in collaboration with clinical operations.
- Provide actionable scientific insights to inform therapeutic area strategies, evidence generation priorities, and pipeline development.
- Deliver scientific training to commercial colleagues on-label and disease-state topics where permitted.
- Support medical inputs for patient access programs and relevant scientific reviews.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with Medical Advisors, MSL peers, Market Access, Clinical Research, and Commercial teams while maintaining compliance with non‑promotional guidelines.
Research & Scientific Leadership
- Demonstrate advanced scientific acumen and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of assigned therapeutic areas, clinical trial landscape, and related scientific literature.
- Provide guidance on scientific evidence, emerging data, and research trends, including critical evaluation of literature.
- Support scientific input for digital medical initiatives, professional society engagements, and regulatory/scientific collaborations.
Tasks:
- Communicate scientific therapy needs credibly, appropriately, and effectively across a variety of internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Build trust with external scientific community via peer-to-peer scientific exchange, research and educational collaborations, interactions with scientific societies and health organizations, publications, etc.
- Help execute country medical educational programs and symposia.
- Conduct country Advisory Boards and Expert Input Forums in line with strategy.
- Participate in and contribute significantly to professional organizations, academic or regulatory working teams.
- Provide scientific inputs for digital initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or Life Sciences; advanced scientific degree (MD, PharmD, PhD) preferred.
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience, including significant MSL field experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in scientific exchange and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong communication skills (verbal, written, presentation) and fluency in English.
- Experience with industry codes of conduct, compliance frameworks, and regulatory/scientific environments.
- Understanding of reimbursement frameworks, clinical guidelines, and local healthcare systems.
- Strong foundational and advanced scientific knowledge within assigned therapeutic areas.
- Deep understanding of clinical research methods, implementation, and data interpretation.
- Ability to confidently communicate complex scientific information across diverse audiences, fostering trust and credibility.
- Strong presentation, scientific writing, interpersonal, and listening skills.
- Excellent insight gathering capability and analytical thinking.
- Demonstrated collaboration and cross functional partnership skills.
- Effective project management, multitasking, and time management abilities under pressure.
- Sound scientific judgment with an eagerness for continuous learning.
